We
recently completely math chapter three, Addition
up to 10,000. In this chapter, third
graders learned to add two 4-digit numbers to 10,000 with or without regrouping
using base-ten blocks and a place-value chart.
Students quickly realized that the same strategies of adding
right-to-left apply, and that regrouping of hundreds is the same as regrouping
of tens in that while 10 tens = 1 hundred, 10 hundreds = 1 thousand. I will share the assessment and workbook
pages that go with this unit during conferences. Third
graders were highly successful with this unit!
We just started chapter four, Subtraction up to 10,000. In this chapter we will learn how to subtract
two 4-digit numbers with or without regrouping.
Once again, third graders will realize that the same strategies of
subtracting right-to-left apply, and that regrouping of thousands and hundreds
is the same as regrouping of tens. The
inverse relationship between addition and subtraction is revisited as we remind
